National Dance Party to Benefit Local Breast Cancer Patients

On October 2, at the start of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Cherry Hill, will team up with 125 other Fred Astaire Dance Studios plus The Pink Fund, based in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, for a very special dance party – Dancing with the Survivors. Breast cancer survivors from South Jersey, along with their Fred Astaire dance partners, will perform ballroom style dances to raise funds that will help provide non-medical financial assistance to New Jersey breast cancer patients in active treatment. The event will be held at 1906 Marlton Pike East, Cherry Hill from 5pm - 10pm.

“Everyone is aware of breast cancer,” says Molly MacDonald, Founder and CEO of The Pink Fund. “What they aren’t aware of is that while fighting for their lives, many breast cancer patients in active treatment lose their livelihoods. Unable to work, patients often face catastrophic financial losses.”

To help support this cause, six South Jersey breast cancer survivors and their partners from Fred Astaire Dance Studio of Cherry Hill, will showcase the ballroom dances they’ve been practicing since August. Our Dancing Survivors are Elaine Waxman, Terry Urbano, Delores Horner, Jini Errechetti, Gaye Pino and Dr. Ann Rosenberg.

MacDonald also says, “Treatment is just the beginning of overcoming the disease, with effects that can linger for years, including body image issues and loss of intimacy. Dancing can play an important role in the life of a survivor. It helps them and their partners reclaim some of that intimacy, and it helps take their minds off their health issues.”

In addition to the “Dancing with the Survivors” Showcase, the evening will also feature a silent and live auction, gift bag auction, general dancing, dinner and cash bar.
