No Traffic On Covered Bridge Road Next Week, Cherry Hill Officials Say

The Scarborough Covered Bridge and adjoining road will be closed to all vehicles, including school buses, for repairs Nov. 7-11.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — Repair work will close Covered Bridge Road and the historic Scarborough Covered Bridge for a week, Cherry Hill officials said.

The road will be closed to all traffic from November 7-11 while crews repair the 63-year-old bridge, which was damaged when a truck driver crashed into it this summer.

The bridge is one of only two wooden covered bridges left in New Jersey. It was built by Barclay Farm developer Bob Scarborough and dedicated on Valentine's Day 1959, according to the Library of Congress.

Cherry Hill Public Schools advised parents, guardians, and students to expect delays during the week, as school buses will also have to route around the closure.

The Covered Bridge was closed for some time after the crash in Julydamaged some of its structural beams, police told Patch.

Residents had also asked the township to repair the bridge earlier this year.

The other covered bridge in the Garden State is Green Sergeant's Covered Bridge in Hunterdon County, according to a 2016 article in the Cherry Hill Sun.
