CHERRY HILL, NJ — A sixth Cherry Hill resident has tested positive for new coronavirus, Camden County officials announced Thursday afternoon. A man in his 30s is in self-isolation at home.

He was one of five new cases in Camden County identified by county officials on Thursday. State officials said there were six new cases in Camden County, and 318 new cases statewide. Information was provided on four other cases by Camden County officials as follows on Thursday:
  • A Barrington man in his 50s is self-isolating at home;
  • A Voorhees woman in her 50s is self-isolating at home; and
  • Investigations are beginning into a man in his 20s and a man in his 40s. No towns were attributed to either one of these cases.

Trace investigations have begun for each of these cases. The number of positive coronavirus cases countywide has reached 11.

State officials were set to meet later Thursday with representatives from Inspira about re-opening a hospital in Woodbury. The current professional occupants of the offices must be moved out, and mental health services must be relocated, New Jersey Health Officer Judith Persichelli said during a press conference Thursday afternoon.

Other upgrades must be done to the building, which officials are hoping to reopen as a hospital in about 3-4 weeks. See related: Camden Area Hospitals Lack Beds For Coronavirus Surge: Report

As of Wednesday, all playgrounds, public bathrooms, and water fountain locations within the Camden County Parks System were closed until further notice as the county amended and reissued its State of Emergency declaration. Parks locations will remain open as outdoor-only facilities during regular operating hours.

Additionally, all convenience and grocery stores were told to discontinue self-serve beverage and food offerings, including coffee and cappuccino bars, fountain drinks and soda, roller grills, bakery cases, soup and salad bars, nacho/chili cheese machines, and condiment bars. Retailers may continue to sell food and beverage items, but an employee must dispense the beverage or food along with any necessary condiments directly to the customer.

On Monday, Camden County and its agencies activated emergency measures to reduce governmental operations to only essential functions. All essential employees, such as law enforcement, corrections, public safety, and others as dictated continue to report to work as usual.

Non-essential employees are no longer reporting to work but will remain on call to work remotely as needed.

The New Jersey Department of Health has partnered with the New Jersey Poison Information and Education System to open and operate a call center (1-800-222-1222) for public use regarding questions, concerns, and other information related to coronavirus spread in New Jersey.
