Officials To Meet With Cherry Hill Commuters About Rail Services

The DOT and NJ Transit will host public meetings to discuss current line suspensions and service improvement on a number of rail lines.

CHERRY HILL, NJ - Officials will be hosting several meetings, including in Cherry Hill, to discuss current line suspensions and service improvement with commuters. The meeting will provide up-to-date information on restoration of service and respond to other concerns and issues commuters face.

The meeting in Cherry Hill is scheduled for Wednesday, Feb. 27, 6 p.m. at the municipal building, 820 Mercer Street.

Assembly Transportation and Independent Authorities Committee Chairman Daniel Benson and Vice Chairwoman Patricia Egan Jones along with legislators and New Jersey Department of Transportation Commissioner Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti will be hosting the meeting.

"The public deserves answers and better communications on progress to restoration of an acceptable level of service. As a request of our Committee, we hope the Commissioner and NJ TRANSIT use these opportunities to not only truly listen to riders experience but use them to inform their action to resolve the continuing problems facing this agency," said Benson (D-Mercer, Middlesex).

“Finally, New Jersey Transit is showing up in our communities to explain why they failed to resume service to the Atlantic City Rail Line (ACRL). Desperate commuters were promised a return to service by the end 2018 and then, in early January. It is now well into February," said Egan-Jones (D-Camden, Gloucester).

“The Atlantic City Rail Line runs through the heart of South Jersey, providing a vital link between Atlantic City and Philadelphia,” Assemblywoman Pamela Lampitt (D-Camden, Burlington) said. “Thousands of commuters, with many residents from my district accessing the train line via the Cherry Hill station, depend on it to get to and from work or school each day. It’s those daily riders who were hurt the most when the line closed in September for the installation of positive train control equipment. But now that the installation is complete, it’s unclear what’s stopping NJ Transit from getting the trains back up and running.”
