Photos: Cherry Hill East Girls' Tennis Falls in Sectional Final
The Cougars lose a tight one to Cherokee, 3-2.
A week after coming away with a narrow, 3-2 victory, Cherry Hill East was back on the court to face Cherokee in the South Jersey, Group 4 title match.
This time, though, the score was flipped, as the No. 2-seeded Chiefs walked away with a 3-2 win and the championship on a windswept day at East.
The match turned over the course of about five minutesâwith East down, 2-1, third singles Nikita Shukla battled through a first-set tiebreak with Cherokee's Emily Trudo, eventually winning, 8-6, to avoid the need for a three-setter.

The victory seemed to swing the match's momentum back in the Cougars' favor, after Cherokee had taken a 2-1 lead after rapid-fire wins at first and second singles.
That momentum was short-lived.

Two courts over, Tyler Haaz and Paige Leone tried in vain to mount a comeback against the Chiefs' Danielle Bernero and Catherine Nguyen, who won, 6-3, 6-4, to break the match in Cherokee's favor and give the Chiefs the sectional title.
