Portion of Atlantic City Rail Line Suspended Following Accident
The accident took place on Friday, and service is expected to remain suspended for two weeks.
A portion of New Jersey Transit’s Atlantic City Rail Line is expected to be closed for two weeks after a garbage truck struck a rail bridge just east of the Pennsauken Transit Center, the transportation company announced on Sunday.
Service will remain suspended between Cherry Hill and Philadelphia during repairs. The tracks sustained significant damage, and outside construction firms have been brought in to assist with the repairs. Trains will continue to operate between Atlantic City and Cherry Hill.
The accident took place at about 3:20 p.m. on Friday, July 28, resulting in the suspension of service between Cherry Hill and Philadelphia. A bus bridge was immediately established between Philadelphia and Cherry Hill with PATCO, River Line and NJ TRANSIT’s #554 buses cross-honoring Atlantic City Rail Line tickets and passes. The truck driver was issued a summons for careless driving in connection with the incident.

Substitute bus service will continue to operate between Cherry Hill and Philadelphia throughout the next two weeks. Additionally, PATCO, River Line light rail and all NJ Transit South Jersey bus routes will continue to cross-honor Atlantic City Rail Line tickets and passes throughout the repair efforts.
