Robins' Nest Golf Outing Raises More than $1 Million

Major Milestone Hit at 27th Annual Fundraiser for Non-Profit

Twenty-seven years ago, a small group of employees from a company now known as Solvay Specialty Polymers decided to chip in an extra dollar each when playing a round of golf and give the money to a local non-profit organization benefitting children. Almost three decades later, the Robins’ Nest Annual Golf Outing has passed the $1 million mark in net proceeds!

More than eighty golfers joined Solvay and fellow presenting sponsor EP Henry at the Laurel Creek Country Club in Mount Laurel on Monday, June 8. The golfers and supporters had a relaxing day on the green, followed by an awards ceremony and dinner.

“As a former Robins’ Nest Board of Directors member, I can see the value the organization brings to the welfare of children. The dedication and results are outstanding,” said Mike DiPaolo, who is a Senior Energy Buyer for Solvay North America. “I could not think of a better organization to support, and these are my own personal feelings, as well as the feelings of Solvay in West Deptford.”

“We’re so proud to be part of this huge milestone in the success and growth of Robins’ Nest,” said JC Henry, CEO of EP Henry. “The programs they provide have changed the lives of so many deserving children and families, as well as those of the supporters and volunteers who work with them, as my mother did in the early years of the organization.”

Jack Sheppard Jr., a golf committee member, former Robins’ Nest Board member, and a sponsor through Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., which has supported the outing since the first year, said, “Robins’ Nest’s mission statement is excellent. What gets done there is so important. The mission itself – working with children that have special needs, issues with families, etc., it’s just so important and it’s such a great program. Looking at the organization and seeing what they do, it’s incredible how many lives they touch. Robins’ Nest is incredibly effective.”

The outing began in 1988 when Ruth London, a co-founder of Robins’ Nest and current Chief Compliance Officer, received a call from Solvay asking about the organization and wondering if they would like to benefit from a golf outing. Later, London found out that she was the only one of the children’s services agencies that returned calls from Solvay – and is very happy that she did so!

London said that she, along with the other employees and volunteers at Robins’ Nest, are just doing what they can to help others.

“In the bigger picture, you’re changing lives. We have so many different services and we have the proof that we are changing lives. An investment in the golf outing is an investment in children and families, so you can go out and have fun and make a difference in the world! All of us can do much more than one of us.”
