Fake Marriage: Romanian Woman Lies About NJ Partner To Get US Citizenship, DOJ Says

CAMDEN, NJ — A Romanian woman admitted to a fake marriage with a New Jersey resident in order for her to become a United States citizen, the United States Department of Justice said.

Antonia-Beatrice Mircea, 33, pleaded guilty in Camden federal court to conspiracy to commit marriage fraud.

Mircea is a citizen of Romania and joined in a fake marriage with United States citizen Victor Purilla, of Absecon, to secure her permanent right to live in the country.

According to officials, Mircea lied on immigration forms and said Purilla lived with her in Atlantic City.

Purilla has never lived with Mircea.

Mircea faces a maximum of five years in jail, a fine of $250,000, and a three-year term of supervised release.

Sentencing is scheduled for Jan. 25, 2027.
