South Jersey Health System Named Among Nation's Greatest Workplaces For Women

One physician says this culture is on display each and every day.

CAMDEN, NJ — Cooper University Health Care was named one of the top places for women to work in 2026, according to Newsweek.

Cooper earned the highest rating available, five stars, and was among only 33 other organizations in New Jersey named in the rankings.

While the honor is substantial, Dr. Ami S. Joshi, DO MBA, Associate Division Head of Internal Medicine and Co-Chair of Women In Medicine at Cooper University Hospital, said the daily "culture of support for women" is always on full display.

"I am fortunate to have built my career at Cooper, alongside colleagues who feel like family, in a place where leadership encourages women physicians," Joshi told Patch.

Joining Cooper, she said, has also brought her a tremendous amount of opportunity to combine her love for her family with the ability to help those closest to her.

"South Jersey is home to me and that means caring for people in my own community. It's also about giving back beyond patient care, by teaching and mentoring the future generation of physicians," Joshi added.

That spirit of equipping the future stems right from her own family, after she saw her single mom carry a career as a physician that brought her fulfillment and purpose.

"Watching her throughout her career opened my eyes for the opportunities available for women in medicine," said Joshi.

The Newsweek scores are based on a nationwide survey of more than 89,000 employed women and reviews of more than 37 million points of information across 120 key performance indicators.

These include gender equality, fairness, and inclusion.

The national nod shines a light on companies that are advancing gender equity through workplace cultures, equitable policies, and opportunities for growth.

That platform for growth, Joshi added, is one that younger women should feel empowered to see as an avenue right in their backyards.

"I would not let barriers deter you from moving forward. Advocate for yourself...don't underestimate your value...be thoughtful about how you set yourself apart," Joshi said. "Seek out mentors who will support both you and your goals. I have been lucky to have found that support at Cooper."

The health system was also named in 2026 by Forbes as one of America's Best Employers in recognition of its workplace culture.
