UNIQLO Reaches South Jersey; Fashion Retailer's 1st Store In Region Opens Soon

The Japanese brand opened its 1st US store in NJ. But soon, South Jersey shoppers will have a closer UNIQLO retail option.

CHERRY HILL, NJ — UNIQLO has spread to thousands of stores throughout the world. And soon, the Japanese fashion conglomerate will open its first outlet in South Jersey.

Cherry Hill Mall's UNIQLO store opens Friday, with festive activities rooted in the company's Japanese history planned throughout the weekend.

Founded in 1984, UNIQLO specializes in casual-wear design, manufacturing and retail. The chain has opened throughout Asia, Europe, North America and Australia.

UNIQLO expanded into the United States in 2005, placing its first American shop at the Menlo Park Mall in Edison. The company opened several locations in North Jersey, New York and Greater Philadelphia. But South Jersey will soon have a UNIQLO store of its own.

The grand opening at Cherry Hill Mall will include the following:

  • Grand-opening Taiko performance and ribbon-cutting ceremony: A Taiko drum performance will kick things off at 9:30 a.m. Friday, followed by remarks from local government officials and store/mall representatives. The ribbon-cutting is set for 10 a.m.
  • Cooler/tote bag giveaway: Receive a free cooler bag when you make a purchase of at least $99. Also, the first 100 customers will receive a free tote bag upon entry, no purchase is required.
  • Free coffee and treats: Enjoy free Starbucks coffee and treats from Tous Les Jours bakery every morning this weekend, while supplies last.
  • Prize wheel: Spin the Garapon Wheel and win free prizes. UNIQLO app members will each get one free spin during the entire weekend.
  • Japanese calligraphy: Enjoy a personalized and authentic Japanese Calligraphy experience for UNIQLO app members on Saturday and Sunday from 3:30-5:30 p.m.
