1 Dead, 1 Injured After 'Suspicious' Pemberton Fire, Police Say

The victims of the fire are a father and son, 6abc.com quoted family members as saying.

PEMBERTON, NJ — One man died and another man was hospitalized after a Wednesday fire at a Pemberton apartment building, New Jersey State Police told Patch.

Family members identified the dead man as 22-year-old Cameron Powell, 6abc.com reported, and the injured man was his 62-year-old father, the station also reported.

New Jersey State Police did not confirm those names.

However, New Jersey State Police Trooper Brandi Slota said in an email to Patch that "based on the preliminary investigation the cause of the fire appears to be suspicious in nature [and] There have been no charges at this time and the investigation is ongoing."

Wednesday's incident at 53 Egbert Street started with aggravated assault and escalated to the fire, 6abc.com said.
