A dependent of a service member at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst has tested positive for new coronavirus, the first positive case associated with the Burlington County military base, officials announced.

The person is undergoing evaluation and treatment at a home off base, base officials said in a statement. A contact tracing investigation is underway, and the base will provide further information once it becomes available.

The base is currently at Bravo Health Protection Condition level, reflecting the moderate disease threat posed by the virus and the risk of exposure to personnel.

“Right now we have one confirmed case of COVID-19,” Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst Commander Col. Bridget Gigliotti said. “The safety of our service members, families and employees is our top priority. We will continue to work with our interagency partners to ensure we do everything we can to mitigate the effects of COVID-19 and ensure everyone has the most up-to-date information on appropriate measures to prevent the potential spread of the virus.”

The base recently announced a Public Health Emergency in line with county and state declarations. Base personnel should avoid risk areas, and self-isolate as needed.

The base is home to the 87th Air Base Wing, which consists of more than 3,100 officers, enlisted, and civilian personnel from the Air Force, Army and Navy.
