CAMDEN, NJ — Hayley Steinberg was a mother to an energetic 7-year-old girl. She loved doting on her child, traveling the world and exploring the outdoors. The 31-year-old mother from Medford also fell victim to the scourge of addiction. Like so many who fall down that rabbit hole, her story came to a tragic conclusion too soon.

Steinberg's body was found in Farnham Park in Camden on Monday, Dec. 2. She was apparently the victim of Luis Colon-Molina, 36, and Wilfredo Boulones-Cruz, 49, a Camden couple that had been dating.

Colon-Molina had recently expressed interest in having a sexual relationship with Steinberg, according to an affidavit of probable cause provided by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office. It's unclear if that desire was fulfilled or what role it may have played in Steinberg's death, but what is known is that the couple stole Steinberg's mother's car, murdered Steinberg and left her body in the park, authorities allege.

"Hayley Danielle Steinberg was born December 4, 1987, the youngest of six to mother Dianne Cutler Steinberg," her sister wrote in the Memorial Fund for Hayley's Child GoFundMe page. "As someone who was naturally gifted, she thrived in track, art, and had earned countless award ribbons in swimming. After her high school graduation, Hayley began to pursue her college education in Addiction Counseling at Camden County College. Until her passing, she was actively involved in the recovery communities."

Her family and her support community were shocked to learn of Steinberg's passing. Camden County police responded to reports of an unconscious woman in Farnham Park near the 1600 block of Baird Boulevard at about 12:12 p.m. on Dec. 2, according to authorities. Arriving officers found Steinberg deceased on the scene.

The Gloucester/Camden/Salem County Medical Examiner ruled the cause of death to be multiple stab wounds, and the manner of death to be homicide.

Colon-Molina and Boulones-Cruz were arrested the same day Camden County Police discovered Steinberg's body in the park, according to Acting Camden County Prosecutor Jill S. Mayer and Camden Police Chief Joseph Wysocki.

Officers with the Delaware River Port Authority found the couple outside a 2016 Mercedes-Benz that stalled on the Ben Franklin Bridge, the same car authorities allege they stole from Steinberg's mother.

They first claimed they weren't in the car, then told police they ran out of gas, according to authorities. Officers helped them push the car off the bridge. When it coasted to Broadway and Cooper streets in Camden, Colon-Molina and Boulones-Cruz ran off, according to authorities.

They were captured following a brief foot pursuit, authorities said. Upon further investigation, officers discovered blood on the rear seats and door panels. They also determined that the car had been stolen from Steinberg's mother that morning, according to authorities.

Authorities then searched the car, finding more blood spots and spots where it appeared blood had been cleaned up.

Detectives said they recovered a number of items from the car, including a black cane that tested positive for the presence of blood, a black purse, a red towel, a screwdriver, a razor-style knife, a spray bottle containing blue liquid, swabs of suspected blood and New Jersey license plates that had been replaced by Pennsylvania tags after the car was reportedly stolen.

A woman was captured on surveillance video driving the car to Colon-Molina and Boulones-Cruz's home shortly after 1 p.m. on Dec. 1. Colon-Molina and Boulones-Cruz later left the building in the car. Boulones-Cruz was wearing a red shirt and a black jacket, while Colon-Molina was wearing a red towel on his head and carrying a black cane.

Further surveillance footage from later in the day showed what appeared to be Steinberg's body laying across the rear seat of the car while it was in the area of Park Boulevard and Kaighn Avenue in Camden at about 3:12 p.m. on Dec. 1, according to authorities.

The car then went into Farnham Park, where it remained for several minutes before leaving, authorities said. Authorities said the video shows Boulones-Cruz wiping his hands with a white towel. The car then drove onto the Ben Franklin Bridge.

They reportedly went to a home in Philadelphia, and later used a debit card belonging to one of Steinberg's relatives at a Chinese restaurant in Philadelphia.

Each man has been charged with felony murder, murder, and armed robbery in the death of Steinberg, whose body was found in Farnham Park in Camden last week, according to authorities. Both men were remanded to the Camden County Jail pending a pretrial detention hearing.
