MANSFIELD, NJ — A crash scene turned fatal when an oncoming SUV hit a disabled car last week on the New Jersey Turnpike, officials said.
Troopers responded to the series of collisions at 10:36 p.m. Wednesday in Mansfield Township. A passenger — Lawrence Orlando, 24, of Millville — succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, according to State Police Sgt. Charles Marchan.
Each driver sustained minor injuries in the three-vehicle crash, police said.

According to the preliminary investigation, two passenger vehicles were traveling southbound on the Turnpike — a Honda in the outer lanes and a Tesla in the inner lanes. The Honda driver lost directional control in the area where the inner and outer roadway merge, Marchan said.
The Honda, which Orlando occupied, struck the Tesla and became disabled in the lane of travel, according to police. Then, a GMC SUV struck the Honda, authorities said.
