A three-day child support sweep in Burlington County last week resulted in the arrests of 51 people who owed $1,209,088, the Burlington County Sheriff’s Office announced on Friday.

The sweep took place between 5 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 26, and Thursday evening, Sept. 28, and was part of a statewide operation. The Pemberton Township Police Department and Willingboro Township Police Department assisted in the sweep.

“With the success of our most recent child support raid, we are sending a strong message that parents must take responsibility for their kids,” Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield said. “Child support isn’t just an issue for the children who rely on it, and the parents who owe it, it’s everyone’s issue. When child support goes unpaid, the cost of care often falls on taxpayer funded State and County agencies.”
