6 Things Cinnaminson Cemetery Visitors May Be Prohibited From Doing

Cinnaminson Township's Committee was recently asked to make edits to township code that may keep litter at the cemetery to a minimum.

CINNAMINSON, NJ – A Cinnaminson Township code may be revised in way that means some Cinnaminson cemetery visitors will have to change the way they mourn their deceased loved ones.

During the last Cinnaminson Township Committee Meeting, members discussed amending, revising and supplementing Chapter 525 of the General Code of the Township of Cinnaminson titled Zoning.

This is a chapter of the township code that deals with, among other things and in its broadest terms, ways “to conserve the value of property; to encourage the most appropriate use of land; and generally, to promote the health, morals and welfare of the inhabitants of the Township of Cinnaminson,” according to ecode360.com.

More specifically, part of the code would provide specific, universal standards across Cinnaminson’s four cemeteries when it comes to items such as parking, mausoleums and minimum acreage, a committee advisor said.

Michael Goins, speaking on behalf of Morgan Cemetery, asked the board to revise the code so that graveyard visitors may no longer picnic within the premises and/or play music within the premises, as well as not be allowed to leave balloons, stuffed animals and/or notes at the graves of their loved ones and/or release doves while within the premises.

“All that ends up in the storm drain, which then goes out to Pennsauken, which then goes out to the Delaware,” Goins said. “All this litter.”

Some of these activities also go on at other township cemeteries and some of the activities also go on late at night, he said.

Based on his concerns, as well as some others that the township said were brought to the attention of the municipal office, the committee unanimously agreed it would table making a final decision on the code.

The next township committee meeting is scheduled for Monday evening.
