BURLINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 38-year-old man pretended to be a boy in order to get underage girls to send explicit material online, the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office said.

Kareem Abdel-Rahman was indicted on two counts of first-degree causing or permitting a child to create child sexual abuse material (CSAM), first-degree distribution of 1,000 or more items of CSAM, second-degree aggravated sexual extortion, second-degree possession of 1,000 or more but less than 100,000 items of CSAM, two counts of third-degree debauching the morals of a child, and two counts of third-degree providing obscenity to a minor.

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children first alerted the Prosecutor's Office to his activities.

Abdel-Rahman used social media to have explicit chats with multiple underage girls. In these messages, he would send them pornographic images and videos as he pretended to be a young boy.

He asked the girls to make CSAM of themselves and send it to him.

At least two girls sent Abdel-Rahman items of themselves. According to authorities, one girl said she did so because the "boy" said he was going to kill himself unless she followed through.

Abdel-Rahman then shared and traded the sexual materials for other CSAM. This amounted to more than 300,000 images and videos using Snapchat and Telegram over the last three years.

He was arrested in August and remains in the Burlington County Jail.

The case now moves to an arraignment and plea.

Anyone with information regarding Abdel-Rahman, anyone who believes they were a victim, or anyone with concerns surrounding another similar case is asked to contact the Prosecutor's Office at (609) 265-5035 and ask to talk to a detective with the High-Tech Crimes Unit.

Submissions can also be made online through the office's website.
