Award-Winning Documentary About Police Officer Deaths to be Screened at Rowan College at Burlington County

Rowan College at Burlington County (RCBC) will host a free film screening of an award-winning documentary by Rowan University students followed by a Q&A with filmmakers and members of the law enforcement community.

“After Tragedy” retells the story of the shooting that killed police officers Jack McLaughlin and John Norcross. Twenty years later, the story is retold through different perspectives of the people who were affected by the shooting including Richard Norcross, John’s brother and retired Commander Intelligence Services Team Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, who served as executive producer on the film.

The film will be screened on Thursday, March 31 in the Enterprise Center Auditorium on the Mount Laurel campus, 5:30 p.m. The screening is sponsored by Rowan College at Burlington County’s Entertainment Technology and Criminal Justice programs.

“The Entertainment Technology and Criminal Justice Program are important parts of Rowan College at Burlington County’s partnership with Rowan University, and offer high-quality paths into rewarding careers. This film will show the outstanding work students can produce through the Rowan Connection,” Rowan College at Burlington County President Paul Drayton said. “This event also serves as another example of how two great institutions can provide dynamic campus life events.”

“After Tragedy takes us behind the scenes into the lives of a community affected by the loss of law enforcement officers,” Burlington County Sheriff Jean Stanfield said. “Law enforcement is a highly-rewarding career, but one that no one enters into lightly. This film takes a very respectful look at the lives shattered by the shooting of police officers in a small town.”

Students in the Entertainment Technologies Program may choose from the following two associate degree programs: Sound and Recording Engineering, and Video and Digital Media Production. The goal of the program is to provide students with solid foundation in the knowledge and skills needed for entry into the entertainment field.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Rowan University filmmakers. Mark and his crew weaved together a masterpiece of film and sound, sharing a moving story that brings emotion and strong message to the viewer,” Entertainment Technologies and Communication Arts Program Coordinator and Lecturer Brooke Mailhiot said. “Having Mark, Rich, crew and cast of After Tragedy come together and open up for the first time about the filmmaking process will be a wonderful opportunity for the students and the public to learn not just about the story from behind the scenes but in-front of the camera as well.”
