Blue Heron Entangled In Fishing Line Rescued By Cinnaminson Fire Department

MOORESTOWN, NJ — A blue heron entangled in a fishing line at Strawbridge Lake is now free as a bird, thanks to several first responders, including members of the Cinnaminson Fire Department.

The creature got stuck in a fishing line, suspending it from a tree 20 feet above the lake in Moorestown. Police and fire personnel brought the bird down Sunday night, and wildlife experts untangled the line and removed a hook from the blue heron's leg.

Officials transported the blue heron to the Woodford Cedar Run Wildlife Refuge.

The Cinnamonson Fire Department said they've dealt with similar incidents at Steel's Pond.

"Pay attention to your surroundings when casting fishing lines," the fire department said. "You are ultimately responsible to your line and hooks."

The Moorestown Police and Fire Departments and 168 Wildlife Photography also participated in the recovery effort.
