Burlington County Freeholder Aimee Belgard is a Judicial Nominee

Gov. Chris Christie made the appointment on Monday.

Outgoing Burlington County Freeholder Aimee Belgard has been nominated for an appointment as a Superior Court judge, Gov. Chris Christie announced on Monday.

Belgard, a Democrat, graduated from Stockton University and the Widener University School of Law. She was one of 14 judicial appointments made on Monday, and the only one from Burlington County.

She may be assigned to Superior Court in Mount Holly, as the bench has been shorthanded due to recent departures, according to the Burlington County Times.

She and Joanne Schwartz were elected to the Burlington County Freeholder Board in 2012. In November, they were defeated by Republican candidates Ryan Peters and Kate Gibbs.

Judicial nominees must appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee, and be approved by the full chamber.
