Burlington County Girl Suffering Kidney Disease Looking for Transplant

Jamie Westphal, 19, nearly received a transplant, but the surgery was called off the night before.

A 19-year-old Burlington County girl will continue to undergo daily dialysis following a kidney failure while she awaits compatible donor for a kidney transplant, the Burlington County Times reports.

Jamie Westphal, whose health problems began when she was 17, needs a donor with O-positive blood, according to the report.

Neither of her parents or her brother are matches. Her aunt who lives in California was nearly a match, but doctors determined the night before the surgery that they weren’t as close of a match as previously thought.

She wants to be a nurse and was enrolled at Stockton University, but had to come home so she could undergo her dialysis treatment, according to nj.com. The University has a spot reserved for her.

Her mother started a Facebook page, Finding Jamie a Kidney, that includes photos and updates of her condition.
