Burlington County Man Sold Gun To Kid That Was Brought To A School: Prosecutor

2 students were previously found with a handgun in their possession at a school, authorities said.

PALMYRA, NJ — A Burlington County man was charged Wednesday after selling a handgun months earlier to a child, which later appeared in two students' possession at a North Jersey school, authorities said.

Two students were arrested March 23 after Morris Knolls High School staff found they had a firearm. The ensuing investigation revealed that Dwayne E. Allen, of Palmyra, sold the firearm to a child that month, the Morris County Prosecutor's Office said.

Officials placed Allen in the Morris County Jail on Wednesday after charging him with the following:

  • unlawful sale of a firearm to a juvenile (second-degree)
  • unlawful possession of a firearm (second-degree)
  • transport of a firearm (fourth-degree)
  • unlawful possession of a high-capacity magazine (fourth-degree)
  • unlawful sale of a high-capacity magazine (fourth-degree)

Allen, 21, has no known connection to Morris Knolls High School, the prosecutor's office said.

In March, Denville Police responded to the high school, where school staff already secured the weapon. The two minors involved were arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and other related offenses.

There was no active threat to the school, staff or students, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.
