Burlington County Women's Advisory Council Names 2020 Members
The number of members increased this year as the council prepares to honor 100 years since the women's suffrage movement.
BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ — With the 100th anniversary of the women’s suffrage movement on the horizon, the Burlington County Women’s Advisory Council has several initiatives planned. As a result, the council has increased its membership to 25 from the typical 15-20 members, the council announced.
The women’s suffrage movement concluded with the ratification of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote on Aug. 18, 1920. The following council members were approved for 2020 at the Burlington County Freeholders meeting on Jan. 22:

“All of these women are leaders in each of their professions,” Burlington County Freeholder Linda Hynes said. “We are excited to get to work and deliver new programs to empower the women in our community.”

The women’s council is currently seeking nominations for the 2020 Outstanding Women of Burlington County Awards. Applications will be accepted until 4 p.m. on Feb. 1.
The council is also looking for women who have made significant contributions in their chosen field, and women who have shown their support of women in the community. Winners will be honored at the annual Outstanding Women of Burlington County Awards Reception on March 30.

This year, nominees will be recognized in the following categories: Mentorship, Law, Education, Community Service, Corporate Leadership, Health and Diversity/Inclusion.
The council is also accepting nominations to recognize and present scholarships to three outstanding 12th grade female students from Burlington County. The $1,000 scholarships will include the Alice Paul Champion Award, the Celeste Arties Memorial Award and the Elizabeth Coleman White STEM Award.
