CCC Police Academy Class Dedicated To Cinnaminson's Sean Cullen

CINNAMINSON, NJ — The Camden County College Police Academy will graduate its largest class yet this week, and that class will be dedicated to a Cinnaminson hero. Beginning this year, each class will be dedicated to a fallen New Jersey police officer. The 71st class will be dedicated to New Jersey State Trooper Sean Cullen, according to information provided by the county.

Cullen was a graduate of the academy’s 60th class. He was killed in an accident on 295 in West Deptford last year. He was struck by a passing driver while responding to the scene of an accident and active fire.

The class, which consists of 111 officers that will join 17 law enforcement agencies in Camden, Atlantic, Burlington and Salem counties, will graduate on Thursday, Dec. 21, 3 p.m. in the Papiano Gymnasium on Camden County College’s Gloucester Township campus.

The campus is located at College Drive and Peter Cheeseman Road in the Blackwood section of the township. Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino will give the keynote address.

This is the latest in a series of recognitions for the Cinnaminson native. Cullen was most recently honored by the Spirit Ride, a national procession of tow companies and emergency vehicles that honors the lives of first responders that have been lost in highway accidents.

Over the course of the past year, he was also added to the Wall of Honor in the Police Museum of the Gloucester County Law Enforcement Educational Resource Center; had a tree and a plaque dedicated in his honor outside the Cinnaminson Post Office; and had his name added to the large granite monument in Ocean Grove that bears the names of all officers from Burlington County law enforcement agencies who have died in the line of duty. A portion of I-295 was also named after Cullen.

Among the traditions that will be observed during the formal graduation ceremony at Camden County College on Thursday is the badge-pinning many of the recruits will experience as they are “pinned” into their new profession by a family member who either is serving as or has retired from service as a law enforcement official.

The graduates have gone through a rigorous six-month training program. They have learned from veteran officers, federal agents, college professors and civilian experts in a variety of fields and are well prepared to serve their new departments and communities. The Basic Police Officer Course began Aug. 10.

The Camden County College Police Academy is located in the Camden County Regional Emergency Training Center at Lakeland and is associated with Camden County College. Upon successful completion of the Basic Recruit Class, the trainees earn 15 college credits from Camden County College, including a 6-credit First Responder course.

Directions: Take Route 42 South, taking Exit 7B. At the roundabout, take second right and follow onto Zimmerman Road. At the traffic light, turn left onto College Drive and proceed to second roundabout. At second roundabout, stay in right lane, Camden County College entrance is to your right. At the next roundabout, make a right and continue on the campus ring road to the gymnasium.
