Cinnaminson Alum's Prom Dress Collection Enters 8th Year
The annual Our Fairy Godmother dress drive collects gently used prom dresses to be sold to underprivileged young women.

CINNAMINSON, NJ — For the eighth consecutive year, Jinhee Lee, a 2012 Cinnaminson High School graduate, is helping those facing financial hardships look good for the prom. Lee is helping collect gently used prom dresses now through April 13 as part of the annual Our Fairy Godmother dress drive. The dresses will then be sold to underprivileged young women.
The goal of the drive is to ease the financial concerns of these young women so they can enjoy their high school proms without worry. All proceeds are, in turn, donated to local charities.
The effort is now overseen by the youth empowerment organization Post Script, Lee said on Friday. Post Script is a New Jersey-based non-profit organization that encourages and helps today’s youth become more involved in their respective communities.

Lee started the event in 2012, and was named the Huffington Post's Greatest Person of the Day for organizing the drive.
The idea was inspired by her own experience junior year, when the unaffordable price tag of a dress nearly stood between her and Prom Night. She was able to borrow a dress the night before and go to the prom, but the experience stuck with her and resulted in the launch of the drive. Each year since then, the drive has been held in South Jersey and Central Jersey.

That continues this year, and they are helping other schools in the area with their own events, using Our Fairy Godmother as a model. There is also a school in Mississippi hosting a drive under the Post Script banner.
