For a $1 donation, Friendly’s provides restaurant guests with five Valentine’s Day cards, redeemable for free Friendly’s Kids Cones or a coupon booklet with money-saving coupons. The campaign runs Jan. 6 through Feb. 13.
Funds raised will support Easter Seals Camp Friendly’s programs, which provide an opportunity for kids with disabilities to discover their unique talents and realize their potential through activities like swimming, canoeing, hiking, fishing and other programs that give them the confidence to reach for their goals.

One former camper, turned camp counselor, from Easter Seals said, “As a person with a disability, I get ‘special’ treatment every day, but from the second I get to camp I get to see what ‘normal’ feels like. I like having people rely on me, because it’s usually me relying on others. When you have a disability, you are trying to stand out without having people stare at what makes you different. When you are at camp, everyone notices you for being yourself.”
In New Jersey, Camp Merry Heart, one of the 19 Camp Friendly’s beneficiaries, is one of the few camps in the area serving individuals with disabilities at all ages. Since 1954 it has provided meaningful recreation opportunities to more than 50,000 of New Jersey’s own.
Friendly’s successful ‘Cones for Kids’ campaign is an annual tradition where guests and employees across the restaurant chain have the chance to become champions for children and adults of all abilities. The campaign has raised nearly $28.5 million to date -- more than $322,000 in 2014 alone -- to benefit Easter Seals Camp Friendly’s program locations across the region.
“It’s fantastic to see a company like Friendly’s committed to engaging its employees, restaurant guests and local communities in our cause year after year,” Special Events Manager Michelle Kasper said. “‘Cones for Kids’ is the cornerstone of our decades-long partnership.”
“We are proud of our 34-year partnership with Easter Seals,” John M. Maguire, President and Chief Executive Officer of Friendly’s and Member of Easter Seals National Board of Directors, said. “We know that contributions to Easter Seals make it possible for children and adults with disabilities to have a great summer camp experience. Our guests and restaurant teams are excited to begin the 2015 campaign.”
