“Believe it or not, we currently have more than 60,000 items out on loan to you,” Das said in a message to residents. “As those materials are returned there are a number of logistics we’ll need to tackle before we can make our physical collection available to cardholders.”

She said the library will focus on the following areas:
Returns: The library will open book drops at select BCLS locations. All materials returned will be checked-in and quarantined for 72 hours after which they will be added back to the collection.
Pick-up of Materials: Residents who have had items on hold since March will have the chance to pick them up. There will also be a curbside service to begin to check out physical items again, initiate Library by Mail service and make enhanced reference and customer service available.
Access to Computers: At this point, the public will have access to the library’s computers by appointment at select BCLS locations.
“Additionally, we know we’ll need to implement new procedures and make changes to our physical spaces in order to accommodate safety protocols,” Das said. “In the coming weeks, we look forward to sharing more details and announcing exact dates on when we will resume our services. In the meantime, please continue to engage with us virtually through our website which provides access to online resources, streaming movies, ebooks and audio ebooks 24/7. The BCLS team truly misses you and we look forward to bringing you more library services soon.”
