Cinnaminson Native Competes For Olympic Gold

Steve Kasprzyk and his teammates competed in the Men's Eight Rowing Gold Medal Round Saturday morning.

Cinnaminson’s Steve Kasprzyk and his teammates on the Team USA Men’s Eight Rowing Team finished one spot out of capturing a medal during the Olympic Games Saturday morning in Rio de Janeiro.

Team USA finished fourth with a time of 5:34.23.

Great Britain won the Gold Medal in 5:29.63. Germany won the Silver, finishing the race in 5:30.96, and the Netherlands was the Bronze Medalist, finishing in 5:31.59.

Team USA advanced to the finals by winning its repechage in 5:51.13 on Thursday.

Kasprzyk competed alongside Austin Hack (Old Lyme, Conn.),Rob Munn (Redmond, Wash.), Mike DiSanto(Boston, Mass.), Glenn Ochal (Philadelphia, Pa.),Alex Karwoski (Hollis, N.H.), Hans Struzyna (Kirkland, Wash.) and Sam Dommer (Folsom, Calif.).

The team qualified for the Olympics with a first place finishin Switzerland in May.

The 34-year-old Drexel University graduate began rowing when he was in school at Drexel, and has spent a total of seven years on the men’s national team.
