Cinnaminson Police Torch Run Fundraiser Set For May 7

CINNAMINSON, NJ - This year’s Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics steps off in just over a month, on Friday, June 7.

More than 3,000 officers will take to the streets of their local communities, including Cinnaminson, on one of 26 separate routes to help carry the "Flame of Hope" to the Special Olympics New Jersey Summer Games.

The culmination of the run is the lighting of the Special Olympics New Jersey cauldron at the Opening Ceremony to officially open the 2019 Summer Games, an event that features more than 2,500 Special Olympics athletes.

The Cinnaminson Police Department will host a Dine and Donate event at SweetWater Bar and Grill on Tuesday, May 7, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. SweetWater Bar and Grill is located at 10 North Route 130 in Cinnaminson.

Anyone who presents a copy of this flyer during that time will have 15 percent of their check donated to help Cinnaminson police officers participate in the torch run. This applies to both dine in and take out meals.

The first torch run was held in 1984, with the goal of raising money and awareness for the New Jersey Special Olympics games. The course ran from Liberty State Park in Jersey City to Rutgers Stadium in New Brunswick, through eight towns, covering 43 miles and raising $7,000.

In each succeeding year, the dollar amount became greater and the number of volunteers increased substantially. For more on the torch run, visit njtorchrun.org.
