Cinnaminson Resident Hopes to be Honorary Phillies Bat Girl

Maria Ruppert is a teacher at New Albany Elementary School.

Cinnaminson, NJ -- A teacher at New Albany Elementary School in Cinnaminson is in the running to be an honorary bat girl for the Philadelphia Phillies.

Maria Ruppert was diagnosed with breast cancer back in late 2006, early 2007, according to her nomination on mlb.com. She has been cancer free ever since she underwent surgery, but in 2011, her family was victimized by a house fire.

A house exploded three houses down. As a result, they had to be relocated to a temporary home for six months.

The whole family participates in the Mother’s Day Fight Against Breast Cancer walk every year.
