Cinnaminson Sets Date For Start Of New Trash Collection Program
The automated trash collection system will be more cost-efficient and environmentally friendly, officials said.
CINNAMINSON, NJ — Cinnaminson Township will begin its new automated trash collection program the week of Jan. 8, officials announced on Wednesday. The new containers with wheels will be delivered to each home on Nov. 18. These containers will replace all other trash cans.
They will be emptied each week by specially outfitted trucks with automated arms which will lift and empty the container and then place it back at the curb, officials said.
Bulk items that do not fit inside the trash container will be collected the first collection day of the first full collection week of each month. Officials said the program will make trash collection easier, cleaner and more cost-efficient, and enhance the quality of services.

Historically, townships that switch to automated collection have seen a 10 percent reduction in tonnage costs because the container is covered. The cover prevents trash from absorbing rain water and adding the absorption weight.
"It is also expected to make our environment more sustainable by keeping loose trash away from wildlife and prevent it from blowing into our roadways and neighborhoods," officials said.

Residents who have their trash collected on Wednesdays and Thursdays will continue to have their trash collected on the same day. Trash collection that currently takes place on Fridays will take place on Thursdays once the new system takes effect in December, with the exact week to be determined.
All trash should be put out for collection between noon the day before collection and 6:30 a.m. the day of collection. All emptied containers must be removed from curbside within 12 hours after the end of the collection day.
