Cinnaminson Woman Victim Of $1,200 Craigslist Scam: Police

Police remind residents about the Internet Safe Exchange Zone, designed to allow residents to safely finish transactions that begin online.

CINNAMINSON, NJ — A Cinnaminson woman who recently sold her car subsquently found herself to be the victim of a Craigslist scam.

The woman sold her 2002 Hyundai XGL on Craigslist for $1,200, Cinnaminson police confirmed Wednesday afternoon. When she went to cash the six $50 bills she had been given, she discovered that not one of them was real.

Cinnaminson police are investigating the incident. Police are also reminding residents about the Internet Purchase Safe Exchange Zone, which was established in 2016. It’s an area for Cinnaminson residents to visit to complete a transaction that began online.

There are two parking spaces in the Cinnaminson Police Department parking lot at 900 Manor Road that are designated as the Safe Exchange Zone.

The designated parking spaces are clearly marked by signs and outlined in high visibility paint. A photo of the spaces, previously provided by the Cinnaminson Police Department, are attached to this post.

The Safe Exchange Zone is under video surveillance 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Vehicles are to pull in the parking space, nose in only, to conduct the transaction.

Officers do not participate in transactions, act as witnesses, or offer legal advice. However, if a crime is committed, there will be video evidence which should aid in identifying the suspect and prosecuting the case.
