Cinnaminson's Matt Gono Joins Atlanta Falcons Football Team

The offensive tackle who didn't play football until he reached high school signed with the Falcons shortly after the NFL Draft.

CINNAMINSON, NJ — A Cinnaminson High School graduate who didn’t start playing football until high school has signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Falcons.

Once the NFL Draft ended, Matt Gono signed a free agent deal with the Atlanta Falcons, according to Delaware State News. Of all the teams that offered Gono a free agent deal, the Falcons are the team Gono eyed all along.

At 6’4,” 305 pounds, Gono plays offensive tackle. The Falcons had six picks in the draft, and didn’t select an offensive tackle, according to Sports Illustrated.

The Falcons were 10-6 in 2017 and finished third in the NFC South. They were the sixth seed in the NFC once the playoffs began, defeating the Los Angeles Rams, 26-13, in the Wild Card Round and falling to the eventual Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles, 15-10, in the Divisional Round.

The Liberian native played soccer and basketball until he reached high school, when Cinnaminson football coach Mario Patrizi told him "No more of that.” He played four years of high school football before going on to play college football at Wesley College.
