Cinnaminson Wrestling Team Improves to 17-0; Wrestling Dates Postponed

Cinnaminson defeated Bordentown, 49-18, on Wednesday.

Cinnaminson High School senior Pat Morton didn’t get the prep time he usually gets before he hits the mat for the wrestling team Wednesday night. He went out there first.

But six seconds after his match began, he had one more win to his credit, according to the Burlington County Times.

Morton pinned Matt St. Jean in six seconds, and Cinnaminson defeated Bordentown, 49-18, to improve to 17-0 this season.

Morton, who wrestles at 160 pounds, usually treats the time before his match as a constant warm-up. He may have lost warm-up time, but Morton knew it was his job as a senior to get the momentum going for his team, and was able to do so with his win.

The Pirates also saw pins from Zack Sireci at 182 pounds and Tom Halecki at 220, according to nj.com.

Ryan Teague won by technical fall at 126.

Isaiah Ellis (113) and Ethan Schuler (132) each won by major decision.

Tyler Addelsberger (195) and heavyweight Semaj Diggs won by decision.

At 17-0, Cinnaminson remains a top team heading into the playoffs.

On Wednesday, it was announced that wrestling coaches will be polled on which version of the power points system they would like to see used to seed for this year’s tournament, according to nj.com.

The old chart rewards teams for stronger schedules; the new chart, commissioned by the coaches association, doesn’t, and in some cases rewards programs for wrestling weaker programs, according to the report. This has caused some controversy in recent days.

The seeding meeting will now take place on Feb. 5, two days later than originally scheduled, due to the winter storm that hit New Jersey this week. The cutoff date was moved from Saturday to Wednesday due to weather, according to njsiaa.org.
