PEMBERTON TWP., NJ — A man who confessed to leaving the scene of a fatal accident in Pemberton Township after colliding with an oncoming car will spend time in prison, officials said.

A Burlington County judge sentenced Christopher Robles, 27, of Camden to five years in prison in exchange for his guilty plea. Robles admitted to leaving the scene of a fatal accident in exchange connection with the Aug. 2022 crash that killed 68-year-old Carmen Gonzalez of Sayreville, said Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw on Friday.

Pemberton Township police went to North Pemberton Road just after midnight on Aug. 17, having received a report of a two-car crash.

Officers could not find the other vehicle, and discovered Gonzalez had died from the crash, Bradshaw said. Gonzalez's vehicle crossed the center line and struck Robles' vehicle, according to Bradshaw.

Investigators identified Robles as the other driver and arrested him in September. He has been in custody since then, Bradshaw said.
