Cooper Introduces Touchless Check-In Amid Coronavirus Pandemic
Cooper University Healthcare has introduced touchless check-ins at its primary and specialty care offices.
Cooper University Healthcare has introduced touchless check-ins at its primary and specialty care offices as the state reopens amid the coronavirus pandemic, the health system announced.
“While many things have changed in the past few months, our practice of putting our patients’ health first has not changed and we are extending our use of technology to reduce the risk of spreading COVID-19 and other illnesses by providing a touchless health care experience for our patients,” Cooper co-CEO Kevin O’Dowd said.
“Our message to patients is that we are putting your health first by adopting user-friendly technology to help to reduce unnecessary points of contact with others and offer a more streamlined service. As always, our outstanding staff are available to help patients every step of the way,” Cooper co-CEO Anthony J. Mazzarelli said.

The new system allows patients to complete necessary paperwork, check in, and pay any needed co-pays in advance through the myCooper mobile app before entering a clinical office. At some locations, patients will also be able to “announce” their arrival through the app.

“Being able to complete my registration online prior to my appointment was easy,” Morgan Outler, a Cooper patient, said. “I was able to do this on my own time and in the privacy of my home. It was also another piece of my visit that made me feel safe. I didn’t have to touch a pen or a credit card machine, which I really appreciated — especially now during the pandemic.”
“We are proud that our technology team was able to leverage our myCooper platform to design a new, practical digital experience with the safety of our patients and staff in mind,” Cooper Senior Vice President and Chief Information Officer Dustin Hufford said.
Cooper has also taken the following precautions to help keep their patients safe:
- Following all CDC guidelines for rigorous cleaning and disinfection practices, as we have always done
- Screening everyone who enters a Cooper office or building.
- Requiring masks for all staff and patients (masks will be provided for those who arrive without one).
- Reducing the number of seats in waiting rooms and limiting the amount of time patients are waiting.
- Removed all magazines and brochures from waiting areas to reduce spreading viruses.
- Installed plexiglass dividers at all reception desks.
- Installed additional hand sanitizing stations throughout all facilities.
The myCooper platform allows patients to request appointments and prescription refills, update information, view test results, and communicate with their care providers. To learn more about myCooper, visit https://www.cooperhealth.org/mycooper.
