Video Shows Cop Nearly Being Struck By Passing Car On Route 130

A video posted online shows a Burlington Township police officer was nearly struck by a car that was whizzing past Route 130 Sunday night.

A police officer on a traffic stop in Burlington County barely avoided being hit by a passing car during a traffic stop earlier this week.

On Sunday night, April 14, a Burlington Township police officer was getting out of his car during a traffic stop when a passing car whizzed past him in an incident captured on the officer’s body-worn camera. The officer pulled his body back in time to avoid being struck by the car.

The car struck the police car. Although it can’t be seen on the video posted on the police department’s Facebook page and attached to this post, the impact can be heard.

“Thankfully, the officer acted quickly to get out of the way and was not injured,” the police department said in the post. “The other vehicle remained on scene to assist with the investigation, and both occupants escaped injury as well.”

The incident occurred on Route 130 South. The driver of the other car was issued a citation for violating the state’s Move Over Law, according to the Courier Post.

The people who were initially pulled over were not involved in the accident. No one involved in this incident has been identified.

The Move Over Law states that drivers must slow down and/or move over into the adjacent lane when approaching any emergency vehicle with flashing lights, the police department reminded residents in its post.

The law received a lot of attention in 2016, when State Trooper Sean Cullen was killed during a traffic stop on I-295 in West Deptford by a passing driver.
