Delaware River Drowning Victim Identified

An Edgewater Park man drowned after jumping into the river Sunday night.

A man who drowned in the Delaware River on Sunday night has been identified as 26-year-old Edgewater Park resident Thomas Scott, the Burlington County Times reports.

Scott was a father of two young children, according to the report.

He was one of three people who jumped into the river and attempted to swim to Burlington Island while walking along the waterfront in Burlington City. The other man and the woman in the incident have not yet been identified.

Earlier in the day, a Virginia man jumped into the Delaware River near the Bristol Wharf on the Pennsylvania side. His body has not yet been recovered.

The weekend’s drownings are the latest in a series of fatal incidents in the Delaware River this summer.

On July 10, Doris Rake, 45, and Kathryn Haney, 19, died after their kayaks capsized in the Delaware River north of Bull’s Island State Park.

On July 12, a 46-year-old Camden man died after drowning in the Delaware River near Gloucester County‘s National Park.

Bucks County officials recently warned residents to stay off of the Delaware River due to strong currents.
