Delran Edges Cinnaminson in South Jersey Soccer Final

The game went to a shootout after the game ended in a 1-1 tie after two overtimes.

This rivalry is as close as it gets in 2015.

After splitting two regular season games, the Cinnaminson and Delran high school boys soccer teams went into a shootout to determine the NJSIAA South Jersey Group II title on Friday, according to nj.com.
Jeremy Rafanello, Ruby Engel, Brendan Rafanello and Andrew Gordon each connected on penalty kicks to lead Delran to 4-2 shootout win after the teams went through regulation and two overtimes with one goal a piece.

Pat McCarthy scored for Cinnaminson in the second half, with an assist from Sampson Abah.

Skylar Diggs scored for Delran, with an assist from Rafanello, also in the second half.

Cinnaminson goalie Mike Deal made nine saves.

Delran emerged to win the South Jersey title after entering the tournament as the No. 8 seed. It upset top-seeded Haddonfield and No. 5 Sterling to advance to the final, and will now play in the state championship tournament.

Cinnaminson was the No. 7 seed. Following an upset of second-seeded Middle Township, the Pirates upset No. 6 Manasquan, 2-0, in the semifinals.

It was the third time the teams played this year.

On Sept. 24, Cinnaminson defeated Delran, 3-2.

On Oct. 20, Delran was a 1-0 victor.

Cinnaminson wraps up the season with a record of 11-6-5.
