Crossing Guard Critically Hurt After Vehicle Hits Them Near BurlCo School: Police

The victim was in a marked crosswalk near a high school, authorities said.

BURLINGTON, NJ — A Burlington City School crossing guard was critically injured after getting hit by a vehicle Friday morning, authorities said.

A driver struck them around 7:20 a.m. at Jacksonville Road and James Street, police said. The intersection is near Burlington City High School.

The crossing guard was brought to Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton and is in critical condition as of 11 a.m. Friday.

Police haven't shared the identities of anyone involved.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle was traveling southbound on Jacksonville Road when it struck the crossing guard in a marked crosswalk, police said. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with law enforcement.

Investigators are reviewing camera footage and interviewing witnesses to determine the circumstances of the crash.
