Fatal Truck Crash Under Investigation In Burlington County: Police

Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle experienced a tire failure, authorities said.

BURLINGTON COUNTY, NJ — A dump truck overturned Wednesday morning on the New Jersey Turnpike in Burlington County, killing the driver, according to State Police.

Nelson Gonzalez, 45, of Manville, sustained fatal injuries, according to State Police SFC Philip Curry.

The crash occurred at 10:51 a.m. on the southbound side at milepost 55.2 in Chesterfield Township. Preliminary investigation revealed that the Peterbilt dump truck was traveling south on the outer roadway when it experienced a tire failure, authorities told Patch. The truck then overturned, ran off the right of the road and hit a guide rail and chainlink fence, Curry said.

The incident remains under investigation.

Officials closed the right lane of the southbound outer roadway for about seven hours after the collision.
