FBI Raids South Jersey Methadone Clinic

The FBI raided the clinic on Market Street in Camden on Wednesday.

CAMDEN, NJ — Federal authorities confirmed that they raided a methadone clinic in Camden on Wednesday.

"The FBI visited 424 Market Street in Camden today to carry out court-authorized law enforcement activity," an FBI spokesperson told Patch Wednesday afternoon. No further information about the raid was expected to be released Wednesday, according to the spokesperson.

The Courier Post reported that agents were seen removing boxes from the building Wednesday afternoon. A search warrant was executed at the facility, an agent at the site told the newspaper.

At least 100 people who lined up outside the clinic weren’t allowed in early in the day, but were eventually allowed to go in, according to CBS 3.

The raid, conducted by the FBI with the assistance of Camden County police, began at about 7:30 a.m., according to KYW News Radio.

Methadone is an opioid used by doctors to treat extreme pain in patients. It is regarded as being safer than other narcotics, but can still lead to addiction and abuse, according to Web MD.

This particular clinic has been in the news recently. It has been announced that Rowan University/Rutgers-Camden Board of Governors will buy the land the current property sits on, and use it to house the Rutgers-University Camden School of Business, according to Philly.com. The clinic is planning to move to Sixth Street and Atlantic Avenue, just over a mile away.
