Don't Believe Everything You Read: Flier About Roundabout Meeting Not Accurate

Neither the county nor the township put out the flier, officials say.

A flier left on the windshields of cars and at households across the township lets residents know of a meeting that is not happening.

On brightly colored yellow paper, a flier promoting a Wednesday meeting inviting residents to the to talk about a county project, is not happening because the county didn't schedule it yet. And neither did the township.

The project is the proposed roundabout for the intersection of Parry Road, Riverton Road and Branch Pike

"I have no idea where that came from," Mayor Don Brauckmann said of the flier. "We didn't put it out."

And the county didn't, according to Fred Turek, township engineer.

"I looked into it," Turek said. "We did not issue any letters or pamphlets, nor did the county."

In fact, the township offices this morning received a phone call from county officials to see when the community center is open to hold such a meeting.

In January, county engineers they said would fix the intersection of Riverton Road and Branch Pike, a stretch of road that last year.

The plan is for a modern roundabout similiar to the one on Cinnaminson Avenue at the Shoppes entrance. County engineers have been surveying the road for years, since Riverton is a county road. Engineers said the roundabout could show a 35 percent reduction in crashes, congestion reduction and is more cost-effective over traffic signals.

Officials said they will hold an informational session for neighbors, and this Wednesday was a date that was talked about, but it was never finalized, and more importantly, never advertised.

Someone made up fliers that said the meeting was this Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. but it's unknown who made or distributed them. The headline on the flier reads, "New Traffic Circle Alert" followed by "Do you want another circle in Cinnaminson?"

Brauckmann said the community center is not reserved for this Wednesday. Also, there is no contact information on the flier other than to call the freeholders if one cannot make the meeting.

Ralph Shrom, a spokesperson for Burlington County, said there never was a public information session scheduled for Wednesday.

"It was just one of a few dates were were offered," he said. "This is an intersection with safety concerns that need to be addressed. The purpose of the public information session is to give the public an opportunity to look at the concept plans, ask questions, express their concerns, and, of course, offer suggestions."

Shrom said the actual meeting about the roundabout is tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, June 6 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the community center in Cinnaminson.
