Former Firefighter From Burlington County Dies in Lawnmower Fire

The 79-year-old retired firefighter was attempting to put the fire out when he died.

A former fire firefighter from Burlington County was killed after his lawnmower caught fire while he was riding it over the weekend, 6 ABC reports.

Roger N. Lippincot, 79, of Springfield, was riding his mower on Sunday afternoon when it somehow cuaght fire. He was trying to put the fire out, but was killed by smoke and flames before he could, according to the report.

He is the second former Springfield Township firefighter to die in a fire-related incident over the last two years, according to the Burlington County Times.

Lippincot also served as Springfield Township’s Emergency Management Coordinator, according to philly.com. He also taught at the county’s fire academy.

The fire department posted a Final Call for Lippincot on its website Sunday night.

New Jersey State Police are investigating the incident.
