Free Event Hopes To Stop Bicycle Accidents In Burlington County
About 100 children are killed and 254,000 children are hurt as a result of bicycle-related accidents, according to one report.
CINNAMINSON, NJ — About 100 children are killed and 254,000 children are hurt as a result of bicycle-related accidents, according to Stanford Children's Health.
Bicycle Safety Day — a free event this Saturday in Cinnaminson — will be geared towards trying to reducing those numbers, the township's police department said.
"Wearing a properly-fitted helmet, using lights and being aware of your surroundings while riding will greatly reduce the risk of accidents and serious injuries," Cinnaminson Township Police Chief Richard Calabrese told Patch.

During Bicycle Safety Day, members of the Cinnaminson Township Police Department discuss how to make sure one's bike helmet is on correctly, conduct a safety inspection of one's bike and coordinate a bicycle safety course for residents, the township said. Food and beverages will also be available.
"We believe having these types of events will help to remind everyone of the importance of bike safety," Calabrese said in the interview.

Bicycle Safety Day will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at Cinnaminson's Memorial Park.
