Frost on the Pumpkin event at Historic Griffith Morgan House
Saturday, November 21 from 11AM to 3PM see the SeaDogs perform, watch food prep and cooking on the hearth. Baked goods available for sale
We are very happy to announce our last open house event of the year: Frost on the Pumpkin!
Please join us on Saturday, November 21 from 11AM to 3PM
The cycle of life for our rural, colonial ancestors reached a point when the autumn harvest had been gathered in but the cold and snow of winter had not yet settled over the land. This was the time of year that the poet Riley referred to as “when the frost is on the pumpkin and the fodder’s in the shock,” and it was one of the best times of the year! Come to our celebration of that season at historic Griffith Morgan House and enjoy that moment of rest and satisfaction before winter’s snows blanket the fields. The great colonial hearth will warm the body as the aromas of autumn cooking warms the soul. Learn how domestic crafts such as candle-making and butter churning helped prepare for the darker and hungrier days ahead. Tour the house that may be the oldest remaining home in Camden County. Delight in the songs and lore of the high seas performed by The Sea Dogs, a scurvy crew who are always favorites whenever they make landfall. Finally, choose among a range of home baked delicacies for the table at our annual bake sale, the proceeds to help keep this colonial home safe against the ravages of winter.
