Burlington County Man Elected as President of Statewide Special Education Group

Dr. Steven Morse to lead ASAH.

Willingboro, NJ –Dr. Steve Morse, Executive Director and Superintendent of Garfield Park Academy, was recently elected President of ASAH. He will lead the not-for-profit association of more than 150 state-approved private schools and agencies that provide highly specialized services to students with disabilities in New Jersey.

Morse had previously served on the ASAH Government Relations Committee and Public Relations Committee, and as first vice president, and had represented ASAH on the Special Education Review Commission.

“I am deeply honored to be elected as President of ASAH and look forward to continuing to serve the special education community,” said Morse.

A resident of Mount Laurel, Morse has more than 20 years of experience in the field of special education leadership. At Garfield Park Academy, he spearheaded the implementation of the Teaching-Family Model, an evidence-based approach to treatment that reinforces adaptive skills for at-risk youth, and has been recognized by the international Teaching-Family Association for his progressive approach to students with social, emotional and behavioral disabilities.

“We are delighted and grateful to have such a well respected educator for our new President,” said Gerard Thiers, Executive Director of ASAH. ASAH works closely with the New Jersey Department of Education to promote effective educational practices and foster collaborations between private schools, public school districts, and communities.

ABOUT: Garfield Park Academy located in Willingboro, NJ is approved by the New Jersey Department of Education and serves students ages 5-21 who have a history of learning, social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. Garfield Park Academy’s program is a positively based cognitive behavioral program.
