Gas Leak Scam Targets 93-Year-Old Cinnaminson Resident, Police Say
Plus, tips that may prevent a similar scam from happening to you or a loved one.
CINNAMINSON, NJ — A 93-year-old Cinnaminson resident was recently the victim of a scam perpetrated by someone falsely claiming to be a PSE&G employee, police said.
The non-employee told the victim to wait downstairs while he checked on a few things upstairs, according to police.
Once the non-employee left, the victim noticed that some jewelry and cash was missing, police said.

Cinnaminson Police Chief Richard Calabrese provided Patch with these tips that may help you or a loved one fall victim to a similar scam:
- Ask the person to see their company credentials.
- Take note of the vehicle the person is using.
- Let only people from companies you made appointments with into your residence.
- Call the company the person claims to be representing to verify their claim if you did not make an appointment.
- Report any suspicious person or suspicious activity to your community's police department.
