Girl Dies From NJ Fire That Killed Her Brother: Police

The girl, 12, died as a result of the May 7 apartment fire that killed her sibling. Their mother remains hospitalized in stable condition.

MAPLE SHADE, NJ — A second child died as a result of a Maple Shade apartment-complex fire from earlier this month, authorities announced Thursday.

Hope Marles, 7, has died, according to the Maple Shade Police Department. Her brother, 12-year-old Alan John Marles, died shortly after the May 7 fire.

Their mother, 35-year-old Shannon Marles, remains hospitalized in stable condition, police said.

The blaze burned through the Fox Meadow Apartment Complex that evening, resulting in six hospitalizations and 16 damaged units.

The following agencies are investigating the fire: the State Fire Marshalls Office, The Burlington County Fire Marshalls Office, the Maple Shade Fire Department, Burlington County Prosecutor’s Office and the Maple Shade Police Department.
