Nationwide, one in four veteran households experience a housing cost burden (spending more than 30% of their monthly income on housing and utility costs).

In New Jersey where housing costs are higher than the national average, one-third of veteran households had monthly income that were at or below 80% of the area median income leading to approximately 46,000 veteran households that spend more than 50% of their monthly income on housing and utilities. A clear pathway home ownership is simply not a reality for many military service families.
